Terms of Service — J & M Ledger
J & M Ledger (the “app”) is bookkeeping software provided by J & M Tax Accounting Solutions Inc. (“J & M”, “we”), Hannon, Ontario, Canada. By signing in or subscribing you agree to these terms.
1. Software, not professional advice
The app is a software tool. Using it — including its AI assistant, reconciliation features, calculators, and CRA deadline reminders — does not create an accountant–client engagement with J & M, and its output is not accounting, tax, or legal advice. Figures the app produces depend on the data you enter and must be reviewed before you rely on them. Filing returns, remitting taxes, and meeting deadlines remain your responsibility unless you separately engage J & M in writing for those services.
2. Your books stay with you
Your bookkeeping data is stored on your own device (and in your own company folder if you connect one). We do not keep a copy on our servers. That means you are responsible for backups — the app creates restore points and backup files to help, but only you hold them. If your device or folder is lost, we cannot recover your books.
3. AI features
When you choose to use an AI feature, the content needed to answer — your question, summarized books context, or a statement you load — is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) through our server. We do not store it. The AI only ever prepares drafts; nothing enters your books without your approval. AI output can be wrong: review it as you would any bookkeeper's work. Each plan includes a monthly AI allowance; we may throttle use beyond it.
4. Subscriptions, trials, and cancellation
Paid plans are billed monthly in advance by recurring card payment through our payment processor (Stripe; one-time professional fees may be paid through Square). You can cancel any time — including self-serve through the subscription portal — and access continues to the end of the paid period; partial months are not refunded. Prices are in Canadian dollars, plus applicable taxes, and may change with at least 30 days' notice. Promotional trials are one per person or company, require no card, and simply end unless you subscribe; we may withdraw a promotion at any time without affecting trials already running.
5. Your account
Sign-in is tied to your email. Keep access to that mailbox secure — anyone who can read your sign-in codes can open the app (though not your books, which are on your device). One subscription covers one company's books. We may suspend accounts used to abuse the service, resell access, or attempt to extract the software.
6. License
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app for your own company's bookkeeping while subscribed (or on trial). You may not copy, resell, sublicense, reverse-engineer, or extract the software or its AI configuration.
7. Availability
We aim to keep the app available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Because your books live on your device, an outage of our website never locks you away from your data.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Ontario law, J & M's total liability for any claim arising from the app is limited to the subscription fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — including penalties, interest, or assessments arising from figures you did not review or filings you did not verify. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. General
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and Canada. If a part of them is found unenforceable, the rest stands. We may update these terms; material changes will be flagged in the app or by email, and continued use after a change is acceptance.
